The Economy of Francesco Global Event on the occasion of the Jubilee 2025

What if we stopped… and restarted?
For too long, the global economy has run on exhaustion: of resources, of people, of time. It has been shaped by accumulation without limits, progress without pause, and growth without soul. But the Jubilee Year 2025 — together with the 800th anniversary of the Canticle of the Creatures — offers us a unique moment: to pause, reflect, and begin again.

Restarting the Economy is not just a slogan. It’s a choice. A call to rethink today’s economy through the lens of the biblical Jubilee — a time for liberation, restoration, and rest. The Jubilee reminds us that the Earth must be allowed to breathe, that people must be freed from exploitation and debt, and that the logic of endless accumulation must give way to justice, care, and renewal.

That’s why our logo places emphasis on rest — because without rest, there is no restart. And it highlights arting — the creative spark needed to imagine new structures, new policies, new ways of living and working together. The stylized loading bar says it clearly: it’s time to reboot the system. Together.

From November 28 to 30, in Castel Gandolfo (Rome) – Italy, we will gather for the EoF Global Event 2025, an international meeting of young economists, researchers, entrepreneurs, and changemakers from all continents. We will engage in dialogue, build proposals, share visions, and commit to action — for an economy of life that is just, inclusive, and sustainable.

Join us in shaping a new rhythm for the economy — one that values people over profits, time over haste, and justice over exploitation.

How can young economists, entrepreneurs, and changemakers take the lead in this transformation?
You’re invited to find out. And to help make it real.

Reflections & Insights. Restarting the Economy: Jubilee-Inspired Perspectives, published in collaboration with Vatican News.
A series of editorials inspired by the three gestures of the biblical Jubilee—the rest of the land, the liberation of slaves, and the remission of debts. Six authors from the global EoF community reinterpret these signs in light of today’s urgent challenges: ecological crisis, dehumanizing work, and unsustainable debt.

Overview

Three days of dialogue, inspiration, and shared action.
The program of Restarting the Economy is designed to foster participation, creativity, and concrete proposals. Mornings will open with plenaries and roundtables featuring diverse voices and bold ideas. Throughout the day, participants will engage in thematic sessions, collaborative workshops, the vibrant EoF Fair and the Extraordinary Ideas in Action pitches — spaces for sharing grassroots experiences, policy suggestions, artistic contributions, and much more.

There will be time for reflection, spiritual depth, and building community. Each part of the program is an invitation to connect local stories with global challenges — and to turn ideas into action through concrete proposals, new alliances, and plans to carry forward in their own communities.

Together, we will explore what it means to Restart — not by going back, but by moving forward differently, creatively.

In an era marked by artificial intelligence and rapid productivity, how can we restore the importance of rest, care, and relational time for both people and the planet? Drawing on ethical theology, feminist theory, and social philosophy, this session examines how care can act as a counter-narrative to the extractive focus on efficiency and endless automation. It links the disruption caused by AI with the need for sabbath — rest for the land and society — posing questions about what it means to slow down in a fast-paced world and how technology can support, rather than overpower, the natural rhythms of creation.

Towards the Global Event!

Organize and share your walk from the town square close to you to places where the economy is already being reimagined.

Each group will walk towards a place (a company, university, cooperative, incubator, etc.) recognized by the local community as embodying the spirit of a Jubilee-inspired economy. Each step, each meeting, each story will be mapped and added to a global counter — because the distance we walk together reflects the direction we want to move the world.
