There are scholars and activists all over the world concerned about the state of “work” today, and others concerned about the crisis of care. But there are few who focus on the ways they are inevitably interconnected.
This short paper builds upon the recent work by Jennifer Nedelsky and Tom Malleson, titled Part-Time for All: A Care Manifesto. The authors present a strong case for reimagining modern societies with a focus on care norms and practices. Care is intrinsically valuable and should not be exclusively linked to gender or perceived merely as a secondary concern in relation to work.
It is a great honor to announce that Jennifer Nedelsky, Professor Emerita of Law and Political Science at the University of Toronto, will join us in person at the Polo Lionello Bonfanti to deliver a keynote lecture in collaboration with the Economy of Francesco.
On March 24th the Economy of Francesco met Julie Nelson in her School. The dialogue on these issues was enriched by the presence of three young interlocutors: Serena, from the CO2 village of Inequalities; Olena, from the Women for Economy village; and Tracey, from the Work and Care village. The names of the villages speak even before the protagonists of the dialogue.
The context of the COVID-19 lockdown provided a timely chance for the webinar, at a time when most of the workforce worldwide has either stopped working or working remotely.
