Wondering and Wandering:
Writing Paths Towards a New Economy

In a time when economic, social, and environmental challenges are increasingly intertwined, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Mainstream narratives often amplify a sense of hopelessness—especially for younger generations—by focusing more on problems than solutions. But there is another way.
Rooted in the hopeful vision of Pope Francis, The Economy of Francesco offers a powerful response: a call to action, creativity, and courageous imagination through young people around the world invited to reimagine the way we think about and practice economy—making it more just, inclusive, and pluralistic.
Wondering and Wandering: Writing Paths Towards a New Economy is spin-off project of EoF: it’s a writing retreat and workshop designed to encourage deep reflection, personal growth, and creative experimentation. Through writing, participants explore how narratives shape our world—and how they can also be tools for change.
Why writing? Because stories matter! In recent years, the idea of narrative capital has gained increasingly attention in economic thinking, highlighting the power of stories (in a wide sense) to influence socio-economic decisions, behaviors, and even systemic transformation. This workshop offers a space and a time for people to develop their own writing projects, as a way to actualize their urge towards a more effective dialogue between socio-economic transformation and action.
The second edition will take place from June 11 to 15, 2025, at Lia Gård, a marvelous retreat center in the hearth of the Norwegian forest, 240 km north of Oslo. Surrounded by silence and nature, participants will engage in workshops, inspiring lectures, and shared writing time, all while developing their own writing project.
Last year, around 25 participants from across the world took part, creating a vibrant community of writes committed to change, in different ways, but combined by the same affirmative vision. You can explore their feedback (click HERE).
This year, we welcome applications from scholars, writers (professional or amateur), students, and anyone with a desire to explore writing as a path of inquiry and transformation. Whether you already have a project in progress or are just beginning to shape an idea, this retreat is for you.
Applications are open until April 15th.
