EoF International Women’s Day
Reading Marathon 2025

Celebrating the voices that shape our world
A Global Celebration of Women’s Voices
On March 7, 2025, The Economy of Francesco is bringing together a global community to honor International Women’s Day through the power of words. The EoF International Women’s Day – Reading Marathon 2025 is a special event dedicated to amplifying the voices of women who have shaped, challenged, and reimagined economic thought and practice.
Women have long played a transformative role in the world of economics — whether as scholars, entrepreneurs, workers, caretakers, or changemakers. Through literature, research, and lived experiences, they have reshaped our understanding of work, business, care, sustainability, and finance.
This year, women from diverse backgrounds will read and share inspiring texts — powerful passages from economists, writers, poets, and everyday women whose insights illuminate contemporary challenges and hopes for the future.
Why a Reading Marathon?
Stories have the power to inspire, challenge, and connect. Through this initiative, we celebrate the richness of female perspectives in economic thought and highlight the role of storytelling in fostering change.
Each reading is more than words on a page — it is a call to reflection and action, an invitation to see the world through different lenses and to envision a more inclusive, just, and sustainable economy.

PRESS RELEASE
EoF International Women’s Day – Reading Marathon 2025: An Opportunity to Rediscover Voices and Words
There are names everyone knows — figures who have left an indelible mark on economic history. But how many of the female minds that have shaped economic thought are truly remembered? Who really knows the women who have challenged dominant models, envisioned new ways of producing, distributing, and caring? Too often, their voices have remained on the margins, overshadowed by a narrative that has prioritized numbers and power, leaving behind stories of intuition, resilience, and transformation.
The EoF International Women’s Day – Reading Marathon 2025, taking place on March 7, is an opportunity to rediscover them. A global event promoted by The Economy of Francesco (EoF), it aims to bring to the forefront the words and visions of women who have reimagined the economy through research, entrepreneurship, poetry, and personal experience. A thread that connects past and future, inspiring a new way of understanding work, business, care, sustainability, and finance. The selected texts not only honor historical contributions but also reflect contemporary experiences of hope in the economic world.
The Economy of Francesco was born in 2019 when Pope Francis invited young economists, entrepreneurs, and changemakers from around the world to rethink the global economic system, drawing inspiration from the values of St. Francis of Assisi: care for the most vulnerable, respect for the environment, and an economy of care. Since then, EoF has grown into an international network of scholars, activists, and professionals working towards a more inclusive, just, and sustainable economy.
Today, the movement is entering a new phase of growth with the establishment of the Economy of Francesco Foundation, which will consolidate the work carried out so far and open new pathways for action and research. The EoF International Women’s Day – Reading Marathon 2025 is part of this journey, reaffirming the power of storytelling as a tool for change.
At a time when numbers often seem to matter more than stories, this reading marathon seeks to bring the language of care, justice, and diverse perspectives back to the heart of economic debate. Women from diverse cultures, languages, and backgrounds will read and share powerful texts — words from economists, writers, poets, workers, and everyday women — witnessing an economy that is not just about calculations and productivity but also about relationships, solidarity, and innovation.
The event will be live-streamed on the official EoF Channel on YouTube from 13:00 to 17:00 CET, allowing anyone, anywhere in the world, to listen and take part. More than just a celebration, this marathon is a call for action — a space to reflect and envision an economic future that values and amplifies women’s voices and experiences.
Words have always changed the world. And this time, they will again.
